When God created the world, everything was pure. Nothing was harmful or deadly. Even after the fall of Adam and Eve, man still had an environment that supported life-spans of nearly 1000 years. Today, however, a centenarian is looked upon with awe because so few people live that long. One woman, when asked what was so great about being 100 years old, replied, “No peer pressure!”
In my mid-twenties I began to hear about health reformers who lived extraordinary lives. Some of them passed one hundred birthdays! Norman Walker lived in my home town of Cottonwood, AZ. In his late 90’s, he was still vivacious and “sharp as a tack.” I heard of the people of Hunza Land who lived an average healthy life of 120 years.
Hulda Crook (1896-1997) was another one of my heroines. At the age of 91, she became the oldest woman to complete the ascent of Mt. Fuji in Japan. She scaled 14,505- foot high Mount Whitney twenty-three times between the ages of 65 and 91. “That’s what I want to do!” I thought. “I want to live more than one hundred years, with all the strength and fortitude of a younger person.” I determined that I wouldn’t put anything in, on, or around my body that took away my health. This dream has faded with time as consequences of genetics, poor lifestyle habits from earlier years, and exposure to toxic substances have weakened my health.
Yet this is not my story alone. Every day 20,000 people die from cancer, many because they did not know the damage being done to their bodies from everyday habits and environmental toxins. Cancer rates are soaring. Cardiovascular diseases are common. Suicides and homicides abound. In the last year, Alzheimer’s Disease became one of the top 10 causes of death in the United States. In 2009 alone, 771 million pounds of toxic chemicals spewed into America’s once pristine air, water and food supplies. Our insatiable appetite for electrical power leads to nearly half of the toxic pollutants. Among these are hydrochloric acid, mercury and other metals which are implicated in health conditions such as cancer, birth defects, brain damage and nervous system disorders in children and adults.
In 2008 alone, more than 2.3 million dollars were spent for health care. Yet millions are dying a premature death, or worse, living a substandard quality of life. Effective treatments for many diseases are beyond the reach of current medical science.
BUT… “God always takes the simplest way.” ~ Albert Einstein
For this there is reason for hope. In the midst of all this gloom and doom, CREATION shines through 6000 years of death and disease. What we need is reCREATION through the same laws that sustained health at the original creation. The first chapters of Genesis provide inexpensive prescriptions for abundant health. The absolute purity of Eden is now beyond our reach, but God has provided powerful tools to help us rise above the contamination in which we must survive today.
The acronym, “reCREATION” makes it easy to remember the Edenic keys to health: Choice, Rest, Environment (encompassing air, water, and sunlight), Activity, Trust in the Creator, Interpersonal relationships, Outlook, and Nutrition (including drinking water). I have personally observed miraculous improvements in the lives of many who have achieved health through following the original principles of health and life. These people’s true stories could fill volumes. Because Eden’s remedies build the body’s defense systems, the effects of virtually all diseases are greatly reduced, even to the point of reversal. Diabetes vanishes, along with its companion, peripheral neuropathy. This is amazing since medical science says that these diseases have “no cure.” I have seen auto-immune diseases, including lupus and rheumatoid arthritis reversed. Many people with high blood pressure, cancer, or infectious diseases have found help by following God’s natural remedies.
I believe God wants to give wisdom and healing for all the diseases we face today, even the “incurables.” “In [Christ] there is healing balm for every disease, restoring power for every infirmity. His disciples in this time are to pray for the sick as verily as the disciples of old prayed. And recoveries will follow; for “the prayer of faith shall save the sick” (Ellen White, Ministry of Healing, p. 226). How does God desire to accomplish this? “Natural means, used in accordance with God’s will, bring about supernatural results. We ask for a miracle, and the Lord directs the mind to some simple remedy” (Ellen White, 2 Selected Messages, p. 346). This is our goal at reCREATION Lifestyle Health.
God’s plan for restoring health includes the restoration of purity in every aspect of the life. Pure thoughts and actions; pure air and water and food. Purity in our relationships with one another and with God. Adequate rest. Eliminating toxic attitudes of the heart can be as challenging as eliminating heavy metals, but the task is not impossible. “Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26).
